What is FABS? FABS stands for Friends and Associates of Blackpool School and is the parent teacher association (PTA) for Blackpool Primary School in Liverton, Devon. FABS is run by the parents and members of staff at Blackpool School to benefit all Blackpool School pupils. We are best known for our fundraising work and we organise and run events throughout the year to raise money in a fun and varied way.
How is FABS organised? FABS is run by a committee comprising of volunteer parents and members of staff at Blackpool School. We hold our annual general meeting in January/February. At this meeting the committee is elected to run FABS – usually consisting of a chair, a treasurer, a secretary and ordinary committee members. FABS usually meet once a month (excluding school holidays). The 2012 FABS committe includes: Richard Juniper (Chairman), Andy Southcott (Treasurer), Bridget Greet (Secretary), Christine Collings, Abi Coon, Dave Ellis, Ruth Fenton, Julie Cole, Helen Fox and Mark Gribble.
How is money raised? FABS raises money through a variety of events and activities such as: • the summer Country Fayre • second hand school uniform shop sales • discos for the children • annual firework display • sponsored fun runs and walks • kids own Christmas cards Please see Coming Up for this year’s calendar of events and activities. We are always looking for new fundraising ideas, please get in touch
with any suggestions.
How is money spent? Funds raised by FABS are intended to provide ‘extras’ not already provided by the school's main income – resources and events that make the school experience more interesting and exciting for the children. The FABS committee and Mr Ord decide how to spend FABS funds. We also ask the pupils for ideas. Previous items bought by FABS have included £12,000 worth of Fizz-books (mini tablet-PCs), playground equipment and structures, interactive white boards within the school, and other funding such as the Christmas parties, donations towards the Christmas market items and the Year 6 leavers’ trips to Crealy. Please see Projects for more information.
How can I be involved in FABS? FABS is open to all and we welcome every parent/carer/friend of Blackpool School to join us to raise funds for children at Blackpool School. We are always looking for help for the events and activities we run - we’re not looking for a big commitment. Your support could range from just half an hour to a couple of hours depending on what time you have available. Ideally we’d like to achieve a ‘bank’ of willing helpers who could be contacted by the FABS committee to help with tasks for the events we run. Or perhaps through work or a hobby you have a skill, a profession or an area of support that could be useful to FABS events and activities – if so, we’d also love to hear from you.
It’s easy to contact us. Please email here
, visit our Facebook page, pop into the school office and leave a message for FABS, or contact anyone of the committee. We’d be delighted to hear from you.
